Policy 27: Wood Policy

It is the policy of Simplyfruit to provide products that are free from damage and foreign body contamination caused by wood or any other potential source.

Simplyfruit prohibits the use of unauthorised wooden items from entering any of its high care production areas.

Wood will only be used in one of the following formats:

  1. wooden sporks – introduced to reduce the need for polypropylene plastic sporks;
  2. wooden pallets, free from damage and splintering and used in designated low care areas only.

Simplyfruit are aware of their environmental footprint, and as a result have been sourcing alternatives to the use of plastic cutlery. They have sourced wooden sporks which will be used in a number of products as a direct replacement for their plastic counterparts. Made from birch wood these wooden sporks are a great alternative to plastic, are non-toxic and are better for the planet. The wooden sporks are checked for splintering or damage prior to being placed in the food pot. Any sporks showing these attributes will be immediately wasted.

No damaged pallets will be accepted as part of an incoming delivery, where there is a possible risk of contamination.

To ensure the wood policy is reflected in every day actions, it will be subject to scheduled Internal and GMP audits.

Maintenance staff shall not be permitted to bring wooden handled tools into the factory for use during call outs / PMS work / repairs.

Wooden handled utensils, bar factory approved wooden sporks, are not permitted to be use in any open food area of the factory in order to minimise foreign body contamination to the product.
